Basic techniques and skills in oil painting will be expanded for intermediate painters. Introductory lessons will be offered as needed for first-time oil painters. The course includes working from various references and still lifes, with opportunities for students to select their own references.
This exact same class is also offered in the virtually in the evenings and in-person.
VIRTUAL students DO NOT have the option to attend in person classes.
Supply List:
1. 12x16 size Canvas Panels or gessoed boards, 10-12 total.You can buy masonite and gesso it yourself, or buy ready made canvas board. Stretched canvas will work, but it is often loose and bouncy. I prefer a more firm surface to paint on. Feel free to get a few of each to learn what you prefer.
2. Oil painting brushes:Utrecht Brush Set for Oil and Acrylic Paint (33253) and Utrecht Oil & Acrylic Synthetic Brush Set (52005)

Each type of brush is numbered differently, so get a variety of large, medium, and small brushes in both hog bristle and sable style (soft) brushes:
Hog bristle brushes: Flats: #6, #4, #2 Filberts: #6, #4, #2
Sables/Sabelette brushes: Flats: #8, #4, #1Rounds: #8 #2Filberts: #8, #4, #1
3. A double palette cup to hold solvent and painting medium gel.
4. Odorless Turpenoid OR Gamsol painting solvent (a quart) -Note: please no turpentine, the smell is too strong in our enclosed classroom.
5. 2, 4, or 8 oz bottle of Liquin OR one tube of *Solventless GEL by Gamblin.
6. Roll of blue shop towels (available at Costco, Amazon, or Home Depot)
7. 12 x 16” Blue Masterson Art Palette container ($20 at Blick in Sugarhouse or online Blick site).
8. White board palette if you don’t mind cleaning off the center each time (I keep mine in the freezer and the paint stays dry) OR Palette paper (recommended: Richeson Gray Matters, 12x16 for $14).

Note: “Artist” series are more saturated and colors have better light fastness. There are also a larger variety of colors available. “Student” or “studio” series are less expensive, less saturated, and fade faster, but perfectly fine while learning.
This is a suggested supply list. If you have comparable supplies already on hand, feel free to bring those and we can assess what you may need
for the class beyond that. You will need canvas panels - 12x16 or gessoed panels.
The brushes and colors can be a bit more varied.
