Clink, clink, get your ice and bubbly drink ready for your own ceramic cups. This 3-hour instructor lead class will cover the basics of throwing on the pottery wheel. With all materials included, participants can expect to make 1-2 tumblers which they can then choose a color for, so staff may glaze them. This is a great class for those wanting to try their hand at the wheel or rediscover a past passion for clay. Finished objects can be taken home and filled up with your cold beverage of choice 2-3 weeks after the class.
Completed projects are fired and glazed by staff with student choice of color and are usually ready for pick up in 2-3 weeks. Pop up classes do not include access to open studio hours in the ceramics area, only regular session ceramics classes offer that option.
Students are responsible for assuring that their artwork is picked up in time. A handout is provided at the end of each class with pick-up dates and deadlines. If artwork is not picked up by the listed pick update on the handout, it will be assumed as abandoned.
Clay and ceramics studios can be messy business, please wear clothing you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a water bottle and apron if you prefer. Slip proof and closed toed shoes are recommended. Very long nails will make it difficult to throw on a pottery wheel and can become unsafe. We do not encourage learning how to throw on a pottery wheel while having long nails but we will work with you if you have them.
