Description

Get playful and wavey with us in this 3-hour instructor lead class covering the basics of throwing on the pottery wheel. With all materials included, participants can expect to make 1-3 curvy cups which they can then choose a color, so staff may glaze them. This is a great class for those wanting to try their hand at the wheel or rediscover a past passion for clay.  Finished objects will be ready to pick up and show off during family visits and dinners, 2-3 weeks after the class.

Completed projects are fired and glazed by staff with student choice of color and are usually ready for pick up in 2-3 weeks. Pop up classes do not include access to open studio hours in the ceramics area, only regular session ceramics classes offer that option.

Students are responsible for assuring that their artwork is picked up in time. A handout is provided at the end of each class with pick-up dates and deadlines. If artwork is not picked up by the listed pick update on the handout, it will be assumed as abandoned.

Clay and ceramics studios can be messy business, please wear clothing you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a water bottle and apron if you prefer. Slip proof and closed toed shoes are recommended. Very long nails will make it difficult to throw on a pottery wheel and can become unsafe. We do not encourage learning how to throw on a pottery wheel while having long nails but we will work with you if you have them.

Please be aware, results of final products may vary depending on clay type, glaze, and temperature variations. Our staff puts time and energy into finishing your artwork and to assure the best outcome. However, not all elements can be controlled in the ceramic process so small variations should be expected. Additionally, occasional glaze defects, cracks, and breaks are a part of the ceramics process for pretty much every clay artist. Glaze results will vary based on what type of clay is used.
