Foundation Drawing is an important and easy first step into drawing. Understanding the simplest forms of expression using fun and easy techniques allows endless possibilities to explore and create no matter how far you decide to go. In this course we will go over basics such as types of drawing tools and materials (pencils, pens, color pencil), some familiar and some new. We will talk about and demonstrate simple and fun exercises meant to instill confidence as well as solidify very strong skills. You will create a variety of drawings and images while you learn and grow artistically. This is a great class for the beginner who has dreams of becoming an artist, or a boost for the self-taught artist who may need some guidance to achieve better art. Note: This is a basic drawing class meant to introduce or re-introduce your drawing hand and your creative brain to each other. For those of you who already have solid Foundation skills, draw often, or are good and just want to “get better”, I recommend instead that you consider taking the Organic Sketching course (check the class listings!) SUPPLY LIST: **Please have these supplies with you for the first class! 18 x 24 Drawing or Sketching pad… Sketch pads usually have more paper per pad than Drawing pads, and are cheaper Sketch book… around 8 x 10 or 9 x 12 (there are a variety of sizes in that range). Not smaller than that! Prefer you get one with spiral binding, either on the top or the side. Graphite Pencils… One each of 2B, 4B, 6B or 8B 1 Blending Stump… usually sold in small variety pack, otherwise get 1 that is roughly the thickness of a pencil. Eraser Shield… This is a thin metal template, a little bigger than a credit card. Most art stores have them or online. You only need one. 1 Kneaded Eraser 1 White Plastic Eraser Later in the course we will be needing: Color Pencils… Recommend a mid-level set in a variety of colors (usually an 8 or 12 pack in a store-brand such as Michael’s is just fine). I will show you a variety of options so no need to buy them right away.
