Learn to make incredible pieces from clay in this 6-week ceramics class!
Complete beginners or advanced students new to VAI, this sampler, half session option in ceramics is designed for you. Come have fun with us while getting to know our studio and the ceramics process.
This mixed levels, half session ceramics class is designed for students who are beginners seeking a shorter try-it out option and advanced students who are looking to sample clay studios to join. Our experienced instructor will work with students by following an adaptive schedule of hands-on demonstrations for pure beginners to more experienced clay artists. Peer-to-peer support is highly encouraged along with comfort in working independently as projects may vary greatly. Instruction will be woven into lessons to build knowledge in the areas of throwing on a pottery wheel, hand-building, glazing techniques, functional wares, object design, and expression. After demonstrations, students may work freely on their own projects with instructor support. All students enrolled in current, 12-or-6-week regular session ceramics classes have access to unlimited open studio hours within the ceramics studio. Hours vary from session to session; however, one can expect 30 to 40 hours of open studio time per week. All students must become familiar with and follow our ceramics studio rules and guidelines which are emailed during the first week and posted in the ceramics studio.
Open studio is first come-first served for wheels.

TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM:
We try to make our classes as accessible to everyone as possible. We are able to offer a limited number of tuition assistance scholarships each term. You can complete an application in either English or Spanish or call our office for assistance applying.

ADA ACCESSIBILITY & ACCOMMODATIONS:
Our classrooms are ADA accessible. Some courses may involve tasks or activities that may be difficult for individuals with limited strength, difficulty bending over, and sitting or standing for long periods of time. We are happy to work with students to find solutions to make their experience positive and doable. For example, wheel throwing takes arm strength and bending over the wheel. Students may work on hand-building projects instead of throwing. Please reach out to our office to discuss your needs.
