Let's make a newspaper together! In this "real-world experience" class, students will practice creating as editorial illustrators. Each day, we'll be working on eye-catching artwork to accompany real newspaper articles, making readers want to find out more! Each new project will follow the process of working with an art director: Step 1) Students receive the assignment to illustrate for a specific story (they will have a choice between 2 "feel-good" article options). Step 2) Students present concept sketches and receive direction from the art director (instructor Addie Vawdrey). Step 3) Students turn in their finished illustrations to the art director for placement within the newspaper layout. This class will expand your abilities for visual storytelling and give you an idea of what it's like to work as an editorial artist. We're going to talk a lot about using design principles as power tools for storytelling, and each class day we'll discuss the work of an inspiring illustrator who does this work for a living! Supply list: 1) 9x12 inch pad of bristol paper 2) A few mechanical pencils 3) 1 Pink Pearl eraser 4) A set of alcohol markers (Shuttle Art makes an awesome set for a good price: https://tinyurl.com/vkj6uwvp ) We will sometimes experiment with layering other mediums for a mixed media approach. Addie will supply any additional media for this purpose. Instructor: Addie Vawdrey Minimum Enrollments and Refunds: We need a minimum of 5 participants to be able to provide the class.
