Description

Build foundational drawing skills by observing and learning proportions and structure of the head and figure. Various white casts lit with different lighting angles will increase students knowledge of how light and shadow fall over form.

Cast drawing has served as a foundational cornerstone of artistic training for centuries, bridging the gap between observation and anatomical understanding in the study of the head and figure. This rigorous discipline involves rendering white plaster reproductions of classical sculptures. Because casts are static, monochromatic, and unchanging, they provide an ideal, controlled environment to study the structure, proportion, and tonal gradations of light and shadow without the distraction of color or the limitation of a moving live model.

MONTHLY TOPIC BREAKDOWN:

September: blocking in from a cast in general geometric shapes and learning to organize values into 5 basics, 2 in the darks, 1 middle value, and 2 in the lights

October: Studying the same cast from different angels and lighting set-ups. Shadow mapping and creating proper edges.

November\Dec. Bringing a Figure cast up to a full finish in proper proportions.
